Born in 1963, he now lives and works in Beijing.  He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in arts from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1988 and 1995 respectively.  As a representative of China’s new realism style, it was widely recognized in the 1990s.  His solo exhibitions include the Graz Art Museum in Austria (2012) and the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing (2010). His group exhibitions include the Shanghai Biennale (2000, 2010), the 15th Sydney Biennale (2006) and the 47th Venice Biennale (1997).
